Jose Padilla, DJ Who Pioneered the Balearic Sound, Passes Away at 65

Jose Padilla

The renowned Spanish DJ and producer traveled from Jose Padilla hometown Barcelona to Ibiza in 1975, where he would, later on, settle in for his famous Cafe Del Mar residency and forge a track record as the godfather of chill-out music.

Jose Padilla sundown mixes generated the popular Cafe del Mar compilation albums, which have sold more than 6 million copies around the world, according to his reps.

As a producer, Padilla cut remixes for Norah Jones, Chris Rea, and others, he would take his tunes to clubs and parties around the world, and he counted Madonna among his fans.

His very first artist album, 1998’s Keepsake, went on to earn a Latin Grammy election for the best crucial work.

As his health degraded in recent months and the pandemic saw his earnings dry up, Padilla launched a GoFundMe “My circumstance is very bad,” he composed in a post-July 5. He later underwent surgical treatment and on Aug. 21 updated his supporters with the news that he was “beginning on the long road to recovery.”

The electronic music world commemorated the late chill-out master.

Famous British DJ Carl Cox described Padilla as “a good friend, and a real legend of Ibiza,” while fellow Brit Rob da Bank stated how ” Jose made me weep with a beautifully synced sunset … he made numerous moments like that for people.”
