Facebook will ban US political advertisements forever after election

Facebook will ban US-based political ads indefinitely after the governmental election, trying to avert confusion over its outcomes. “While ads are an important way to reveal voice, we plan to momentarily stop running all social issue, electoral, or political ads in the United States after the polls close on November 3rd, to reduce chances for confusion or abuse,” the business says

Facebook is reacting to the widespread issues that social media could muddle election outcomes. It currently labels some election-related posts with a link to its Voting Information Center, but if a candidate incorrectly declares they have actually won the election, Facebook will include “more particular information” contradicting the claim.

Facebook previously revealed that it would freeze political advertisement sales prior to the election, and before this blanket post-election restriction, it had specifically barred ads that incorrectly claimed success. Worldwide affairs head Nick Clegg has also raised the possibility of limiting other content if it could cause violence. In advance of the election, it’s promised to get rid of material from the pro-Trump “militarized social motion” QAnon.

Nevertheless, the prospect of election night chaos still looms. President Donald Trump has refused to devote to quietly transferring power if he loses the election. Democratic competitor Joe Biden has slammed Facebook for not fact-checking or getting rid of Trump’s false claims about the mail-in ballot, calling its moderation policies a “regression.”
