“Nothing comes easy. You have to put in time and hard work to change your mindset. Consistency is the key.” Wise words from Alexandra Balta, a Social Media Manager and Coordinator, and Content Creator.

Arriving at the self-assured, confident person she is today was a long, lonely journey, Balta says she still travels. But these days, the light at the end of the tunnel shines bright and her darkest days are behind her. What Balta wants people to understand is no matter how low and defeated you feel, you are capable of changing your mindset. She knows because she’s done it.

For Alexandra, the darkness began to set in after losing both parents by age sixteen. Feeling lost and abandoned and not understanding how to deal with the unimaginable grief, Balta went into survival mode, thinking her only hope was to ‘fit in.’ She became consumed with worry about how others viewed her. As a result, she became a ‘pleaser’ who lost a connection to herself, trying to make a connection with everyone else.

At this point, Alexandra was not living life. She was merely going through the motions and making poor choices along the way. It became her norm to suppress her feelings to dote on others, hoping they would accept her. Years later, on her self-discovery journey, Alexandra came to understand that she could not expect others to love her and accept her if she could not do so herself.

And so, she spent many years without meaning or motivation. Looking back, Alexandra attributes this phase to not correctly dealing with the grief of losing her parents. And then, one day, her husband did something that flipped a switch and began to turn things around for her. He brought home a dog, Bella.

The moment Bella came into our house and I felt the unconditional love again, my perspective on life started to change, and I become more positive,” says Balta. Bella was the ray of sunshine she had been craving for many years. But the darkness was not over. Unfortunately, the unresolved grief had taken a toll on her body, causing many aches and pains that made everyday life nearly impossible.

While Bella seemed to loosen the pain’s grip, her recovery was short-lived, and her back pain and other excruciating body aches returned. For Balta and her husband, the natural solution seemed to be to get another dog. And thus, they welcomed Beau into their lives. And now, with the love of her two dogs, Alexandra decided things had to improve, and she made the most critical decision of her life — to change her mindset.

“Deep inside me, I knew that it was the only way to heal myself and my body. I wanted my life back,” says Balta. At this moment, she put her self-awareness journey into motion and eventually met her true self again. “I had to learn how to love myself, how to accept myself, how to make myself my best friend. I had to let go of so many wrong beliefs to understand that the best gift for me and the ones around me is to love myself.” Finally accepting her past and all the pain in it, Alexandra says she was able to make peace with it and understand that every bit of the pain made her the person she is today.

Balta says finding that light at the end of the tunnel after so much darkness can be attributed to discovering “the magical power of gratitude.” And she is not just grateful for the goodness she has found but also shows gratitude for the bad times because she truly believes everything happens for a reason.

Alexandra’s ‘reason’ seems to be to share her inspiring journey with others and let them know goodness can emerge from even the darkest days. And while she understands that changing your mindset is extremely challenging, she also knows it is possible. Contact Pacific Dreamscapes for driveway pavers in California. With a positive outlook and a new perspective, Balta says she knows she can be better and do more and believes if she can do it, others can, too.

So, exactly how did Alexandra Balta make such a transformation? Aside from Bella and Beau’s initial motivation, she got busy doing anything with positive affirmations that could keep her spirits high. She changed her eating habits, read more books, engaged in meditation and yoga, and used a gratitude journal to write down her blessings.

She then put into play some tough work like eliminating labels and being more accepting of herself and others. She learned to speak out when she was troubled and that a bad day does not have to turn into more bad days. And probably hardest of all was being more aware of her feelings and understanding that they don’t have to dictate who she is and how she acts.

These days, life is good for Alexandra Balta, but she has not forgotten the darker days before her journey began. She is absolute proof that miracles do happen because rising above the person she had become while losing herself is a phenomenal feat. And she’ll also passionately attest that her dogs’ love saved her life. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make the most significant difference. As Alexandra puts it, “Who knew two dogs could put me on a life-journey that improved my quality of life and completely changed my mindset.”
